This is an exciting opportunity in Columbus, Indiana for a Business Systems Manager. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading projects.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Analysis of business and user needs, documentation of requirements, and translation into proper system requirement specifications. Work with IT support organizations to ensure application technical quality, reliability, maintainability, performance and cost effectiveness. Work with business owners to develop and implement transition plans to common software and / or new versions. Provide management for assigned set of related application systems and technologies.

  • Applies technical expertise on complex components or projects and works under minimal supervision.

  • Leads small projects or portions of large projects.

  • Provides technical direction for a project or a project team.

  • Participates as a key contributor and is accountable for project success.Influences at department or program management level.

  • Provides input on program-related decisions.

  • Proposes innovative initiatives and projects.

  • Demonstrates depth of knowledge of engineering discipline(s) and leverages expertise on other projects.

  • Troubleshoots complex problems and recommends appropriate actions.

  • Assists with the transfer of knowledge; coaches and mentors less experienced engineers.

  • Stays abreast of technology advances through collaboration with industry peers within their discipline.

Qualifications

  • Systems Definition And Design - Demonstrated ability in requirements allocation, system modeling and testing for large engineering systems.

  • Product Risk Management - Understanding of the concepts, methods, and techniques for managing risks that threaten a plan for developing a system.

  • 7 Step Product Problem Solving Process - Working knowledge of the process to ensure product problems are addressed in a disciplined, organized way, so that the solution is based on data rather than opinions or subjectivity.

  • Business Case Discovery - Understanding of the skills needed to analyze a project or activity and identify the long term and short term cost components that provide value / benefit / cost savings.

  • Establishes Plans - Solid understanding of how to establish plans. Develops plans that are thorough, realistic, and effective in meeting goals. Uses basic tools, processes and systems to document work clearly. Integrates planning efforts across work units. Translates objectives into clear tactics for execution. Integrates customer feedback into planning process.

  • Communication - Written And Verbal - Is able to effectively and clearly communicate in both written and verbal means.

Experience

3 to 5 years of relevant work experience required with following applications:

  • Java Programmer (Struts)/SQL/Toad

  • Application Interaction (WWSPS linkages and feeds with multiple other programs/Apps)

  • Web Applications/HTML/CSS/JavaScript/Jquery

  • Oracle 10g

  • Understanding of Security Levels (different access capabilities within same application)

  • Excel Reporting

  • Familiarization with Map Plotting and Web Sphere (7)/Weblogic a plus

  • Interest in understanding the business reasons (Not looking for just a code developer)

Additional skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Not afraid to ask questions or for clarification

  • Ability to prioritize and ask for guidance when needed

  • Capable of tracking multiple requests and projects

  • Ability to work cross functionally with other development/support teams

  • Displays ownership of the application and works to understand the ecosystem to develop change impact analysis

Education, Licenses, Certifications

  • College, university, or equivalent degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology required.

  • Green Belt certification desired.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary rate commensurate with experience plus annualized bonus potential.
