Description

Applies basic knowledge of statistical tools and warranty databases to analyze existing component or system reliability, report the reliability per the customer's reporting requirements, and provide interpretation of the results. Applies basic knowledge to assigned tasks to provide reliability comparisons and assessments across the Cummins product range and identify and report adverse or favorable trends in current product reliability. Applies basic knowledge of statistical and life data analysis techniques to statistically quantify the reliability impact of design change. Assists with the development of related tools and methods in order to quantify and improve product reliability. Works with current product problem solving teams as well as finance and marketing functions.

Applies engineering and/or scientific skills to technical processes with support from experienced team members.

Participates as a team member, helps define/refine methods and actively contributes towards team goals.

Carries out engineering responsibilities using accepted methods and practical experience.

Demonstrates good understanding and applies knowledge of an engineering discipline.

Continues to develop capability to create engineering solutions through training and experience

Qualification Skills

  • Reliability Terms And Measures - Demonstrated competence in using, applying, and understanding of the key terminology and measures related to reliability. Actively participates in the development of new measures using customer input.

  • 7 Step Product Problem Solving Process - Has extensive experience applying the 7-step process and is able to lead teams applying it to complex or critical problems. Has demonstrated the ability to apply the 7-step process successfully to a broad range of problems. Is able to mentor and coach less experienced people in understanding and applying the process steps.

  • New Product Reliability Standard Work - Leads the execution of reliability standard work for a new product development program and is responsible for the completion of the following activities: new product reliability assurance, parenting and reliability improvement plans, iDFMEA, FRACAS, and new product reliability growth and assessments. Holds reliability functional reviews or presents similar content in technical functional reviews, including key reliability measures: reliability risk assessments, product release status, completion status, reliability testing level of detection and nine box. Participates in workgroups for new reliability methods and tool development. Trains and mentors those at the awareness and user levels.

  • Warranty Data Analysis - Ability to create new and run standard warranty data analysis reports in support of problem detection, problem solving, problem quantification, and fix verification, using existing tools and methods. Ability to apply a range of analyses to complex problems and effectively communicate results.

  • Develops Systems And Processes - Identifies and implements effective processes and procedures for accomplishing work. Demonstrated results indicating deep knowledge and understanding of the complexities of developing systems and processes. Applies detailed systems and processes to improve and complete work (e.g. communication channels, work steps, procedures, checklists, or flow charts). Demonstrates ability to identify problems resulting from lack of process and develop and apply processes and systems to organize the work. Uses processes and systems to manage multiple and complex work demands. Guides others in the use and application of structured systems and process.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

  • Master of Science, Bachelor of Science, or equivalent technical degree required.

  • JMP, Minitab, Excell

Experience

  • Basic relevant work experience desired, such as internship, co-op, or other pertinent work experience.

The role would need to:

  • Support PQC function and act as a liaison between reliability and PQC. Provide prioritization and recommendation to ensure engineering resources are used optimally to deliver maximum reliability improvement.

  • Monitor improvement effectiveness using the appropriate tool and process. Translate the results to proper information for management understanding.

  • Work closely with service team function to ensure reliability, quality requirements and deliverable are specified and met. Execute analysis per the specified requirements.

  • Engage with engineering / rapid response team to ensure the right level of reliability information is shared, provide input to fault tree analysis using statistical inferences. Provide recommendation with regards 7-Steps process, follow through to the execution of the recommendations.

  • Act as a CES reliability lead and collaborate with other BUs reliability to ensure alignment of process and reliability work distribution.

  • Self-sufficient, demonstrate initiative towards continuous improvement, adaptable to changes and work well with various stakeholders
