Envision Cummins is the business program office for the largest, most strategic global business transformation initiatives for Cummins. Value Assurance, part of Envision Cummins, is an internal consulting organization that partners with each of these business transformation initiatives from inception to assure value driven business transformations. More importantly, Value Assurance is transforming Cummins’ approach to large global business transformations.

The Sr. Value Assurance Manager is a member of the Value Assurance team with Envision Cummins. Responsibilities will include partnering with business and program leaders to develop in-depth business value assessments and drive the development and execution of robust benefit realization plans, as well as driving the adoption and integration of Value Assurance principles and methods across all of Cummins large business transformation programs. Successful large scale transformation initiatives require partnerships with key stakeholders throughout multiple cross-functional and cross-business global projects.

This is an exciting opportunity for an internal management consultant Value Assurance Senior Manager in Columbus, Indiana. The position requires local and global travel.

Your Impact Will Happen In These and Other Ways

  • Lead in-depth business value assessments of large business transformation initiatives from inception to completion to drive development of robust benefits realization plans that shape roadmaps and maximize business value, managing each assessment using proven project management methodologies

  • Work closely with program teams, program leaders, and business leaders towards defining and structuring successful business transformation programs based on data driven recommendations, proven management consulting techniques (hypothesis-driven approach, MECE analysis, pyramid principle, etc.) and valuation techniques

  • In very large programs this role could include the responsibility to work with business and functional leaders to define tangible and measurable business outcomes and to lead the program achieving those business outcomes

  • Measure and track business outcomes from transformational programs

  • Support program teams to modify the transformation programs to improve the benefit to key stakeholders, align with the business objectives, and improve business adoption

  • Manage project risk; use tools to identify areas of risk; identify alternatives or solutions; apply motivational techniques to broad-based organization change issues

  • Monitor program status and communicate with program sponsors and other stakeholders on status of specific projects and assignments

  • Leverage experience of cross-functional resources and resources external to the project team; document and share team learnings with other teams; draw on other project team experiences to enhance the success of the project

  • Identify and assign appropriate resources to accomplish various project tasks; guide and coach team members through various stages of the project

  • Provide developmental feedback to team members and coach program managers and program teams

  • Build broader organization capability to ensure value-driven transformations through greater adoption and integration of Value Assurance best practices across Cummins

Qualifications and Competencies


  • Very effective problem solver with the ability to apply strategic frameworks to analyze key issues and develop solutions, and to structure ambiguous problems in a way to identify required internal or external experts; Very good at analyzing and determining 80/20 impact

  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to identify, refine, prioritize, and quantify key issues and impacts from very large and complex projects

  • Strong business finance knowledge with the ability to link capabilities to the income statement and balance sheet

  • Strong project management skills and relevant experience, to include issue, scope, schedule, resource plan management, stakeholder management and communications, and project risk management.

  • Solid functional knowledge, including but not limited to strategy, business development, manufacturing, supply chain, product development, project management, marketing and sales, etc.

  • An effective communicator who works effectively with people at all levels in an organization, with strong interviewing and active listening skills with the proven ability to develop rapport, ask thoughtful questions, uncover bias and unspoken concerns, clarify, probe, broaden, challenge and prioritize

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, university, or equivalent degree required. BSc in Engineering or Computer Science is preferred. MBA or equivalent work experience is required.


Significant level of relevant work experience, including team leadership experience, required.

Experience in strategy consulting or similar is preferred

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
