This is an excitingopportunity in Craiova, Romania for an Applied Mechanics Engineer – Technical Specialist.This role is working for our Cummins Generator Technologies business. Established in 1904, Cummins Generator Technologies manufactures alternators under the renowned STAMFORD and AvK brands setting the industry standard, with a range extending from 7.5 to 11,200kVA, suitable for all generator set configurations.

Your impact will be seen in these and other ways:

  • Providing innovative design solutions that meet the need of new projects to enhance product performance and provide cost reduction.

  • Defining the technical scope and ensuring it is adhered to

  • Influencing at a management level to ensure the correct level of rigor is applied to the design

  • Direct the team by reviewing work that has been actioned – troubleshooting design weaknesses so that viable designs are released

  • Leading innovation and ensuring a flow of new design concepts are provided

  • Influencing cross function decision making or strategy definition.

  • Leading subsystem design providing fully validated and verified design solutions

  • Working with suppliers to ensure their expertise is used to enhance the design, and design for manufacture is brought to the fore.

  • Coaching apprentices and less experience team members

  • Providing a technical risk assessment of design work being undertaken so that a suitable development plan can be actioned, to limit risk

  • Provide design inputs and solutions for all projects



  • Significant experience focused on a technical area of expertise such as alternators, structure stress analysis, finite element analysis, or design, with demonstrated experience and capability to manage people and projects.

  • Relevant work experience required, such as responsibility for several components of a project or a complex component of a project

  • Engineering experience in design and manufacture of electrical machines, motors or alternators a distinct advantage.

  • Broad knowledge of generator application, mechanical aspects and test methods preferred

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Communicative English.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

University degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline.
