At Cummins we recognise that having experience of the working world during your university degree provides a key insight to the practical application of your learning. We run an exciting 12 month placement programme (Aug 2018-Jul 2019) where you are given the opportunity to work on real projects making a difference in both your team and the company as a whole. You will receive on the job training and take part in a structured Training & Development Programme designed to give the skills and competencies required for future graduate positions.
The role of Human Resources Placement will be to act as an integral member of a busy HR Team and will support key projects throughout the year. This role involves dealing directly with employees, supervisors and management on subjects such as company policy, recruitment, employee support, contracts, employment law and absence management. The team is split across 2 sites based in Daventry and Kent. There is a requirement for one placement student at each site.
Develop good understanding of and assist in the updating and administration of Cummins HR policies and procedures.
Maintain HR documentation such as exit interview data, photo library, organisation charts and work instructions.
Take minutes and collate information for hearings and disciplinary meetings.
Support recruitment internal and external recruitment including advertising, coordinating applications, liaising with managers and arranging and supporting interviews.
Coordinate the Cummins Driver Safety Training and Driver License Checks
Support the administrative role of the IMechE chartership scheme, hosting quarterly meetings with mentors.
Support new HR initiatives and participate in HR lead projects.
Attendance at disciplinary and grievance meetings, taking minutes and collating all relevant information.
Support sickness and absence management and follow up on individual actions required; Participate in absence reviews with supervisors and/or Occupational Health.
Management and administration of the Employee Recognition Programme, long service awards and other service related functions.
Sourcing information, interpreting data, developing solutions and implementing changes to achieve results to agreed deadlines.
Support the department on key tasks and projects, support team members both independently and within teams.
Any other generalist HR duties as required by the department.
College, university, or equivalent degree in Human Resources or Business related subject required.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent IT skills to include Excel and PowerPoint
Strong organisational and time management skills
Effective written and oral communication skills
Flexible and proactive attitude with a desire to learn and take on responsibility.
Experience of working within the HR function will be advantageous but not mandatory
The role will provide excellent experience for your CV and an introduction to a HR role in industry. A mentor will be there to guide you through your placement year. The following training and development will be provided;
Gaining an insight into the workings of a fast pacedand complex multinational Fortune 500 organisation
Training in Corporate systems such as Oracle, and familiarisation with other business software.
Coaching to enable the development of other business skills.
4 x 1 day workshops through an external training provider: Adapting to Professional Environments, Effective Communication and Presentation Skills, Team Work, Customer Care.
