Cummins Technician Apprentices gain the opportunity to work beside and learn from Cummins Technicians and gain an education at the same time. You’ll begin your apprenticeship and earn while you learn and achieve your Associates in Applied Science Degree
and US Department of Labor Trade Certificate.
Beyond your on-the-job training, you’ll receive college classroom, online and hands-on training that will place you on the leading edge of technology. On a daily basis you’ll work with experienced technicians on a wide variety of engine and equipment platforms.

Technician Apprentice Program (TAP)
As a full-time Employee, you will develop skills for service, maintenance, troubleshooting & diagnostics on Diesel and Natural Gas Engines. This apprenticeship focuses on development of your professional, personal, and technical skills. Each year of the
program, you will receive an average of 250 hours of combined on-line and classroom instruction at your designated regional college or Cummins Training Center.

In addition to your Associates of Science Degree and US Department of Labor Trade Certificate, after 2 ½ years, you’ll work with your management team to identify a specific career path during the last 18 months of your Apprenticeship:
Light Duty, Midrange, Heavy Duty and Natural Gas Engines
Power Generation Consumer/Commercial Preventive Maintenance Technician
Marine for Pleasure Craft and Commercial Craft Vessels
High Horsepower training for 19L to 95L Engines
Service Leadership Training to prepare you for an entry level Service Administration Role
Beyond a stable job in our state-of-the-art facilities and backed by a dependable team, you will continue learning new technology, your career path includes a number of options such as Shop Technician, Field Service Technician, Service Administration, Shop
Management, Service Manager, Training Instructor, Field Service Engineer and beyond.
Diesel Engine Apprentice Technician assists with general workshop activities while completing on the job and classroom based training.
Assists in cleaning, disassembling and other basic workshop activities
Learns Standard Repair Times (SRTs) and follows documented procedures and policies to complete basic repairs and maintenance
Assists with completing required documentation, such as work completed documentation and time sheets via handwritten forms or business system input screens
Completes training in line with skill and business requirements
Maintains work area and tools for cleanliness and proper operation
Ensure adherence to all relevant Health, Safety & Environmental policies, procedures and legislation and reports any issues / incidents to their supervisor
High School diploma with an unweighted 2.8 minimum GPA or ACT score of at least 22 required or
GED with one year of college with minimum 2.8 GPA or
Qualifying military veteran especially in the mechanical trades or
Technical College graduates who have not previously completed Cummins Factory Training and
Ability to pass mechanical, spatial, and safety indicator test Program Requirements
Attend and successfully complete 250 hours of online and classroom training at designated regional college
Manage TAP Competency Checklist over the apprenticeship period
Four to five weeks of travel per year during the program
