This is an exciting opportunity in Hayward, California for an Application Engineer.

Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems

Product Validation.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Applies highly specialized knowledge of technical engineering principles and practices. Is assigned areas and projects in the identification and understanding of client requirements in developing technical specifications, implementing designs, and delivering high performance, low-cost equipment and system solutions integrated with customers’ solutions. Interfaces with sales and marketing teams to design and deliver client solutions. Develops and delivers training on client applications.

  • Leads large or multiple engineering projects.

  • Performs as the local technical expert for one or more engineering specialties.

  • Solves complex problems impacting multiple projects.Communicates with and influences key external stakeholders and business leaders.

  • Drives and manages system level requirements for projects or programs.Makes critical program-related decisions.

  • Collaborates with industry peers within their discipline.

  • Advances the state of the practice for the technical discipline.

  • Sets strategic direction for a program or technical discipline.

  • Advises and transfers knowledge of engineering discipline; coaches and mentors less experienced engineers.

  • Advises leaders for resolution of complex business problems.

Qualifications

  • Product Knowledge - Knowledge of products and product lines. Able to represent the features and benefits to sell the products. Able to recognize customer needs and suggest product applications to solve problems and create benefits for the customer. Able to teach others to formulate effective messages and represent the features and benefits of the product.

  • Product Validation - Able to train or mentor individuals at the awareness and user levels. Data analysis specialist level includes the ability to apply tools without predefined solutions to non typical data sets. Able to troubleshoot problems with equipment, procedures and customer requirements in the execution of tests.

  • Analyze Issues - Demonstrated results indicating deep knowledge of analyzing issues. Critically identifies an issue's scope and parameters while analyzing it from multiple perspectives. Determines the root causes as well as broad implications of issues. Integrates information and defines an array of alternatives. Applies a wide variety of analytical tools and processes (e.g. Six Sigma) on a regular basis to complete key projects and solve complex problems.

  • Develops Systems And Processes - Solid understanding of how to develop systems and process. Applies systems and processes to improve and complete work at a team/departmental level. Works to eliminate system and process inefficiencies and roadblocks. Demonstrates consistent use of structured work documentation.

  • Coach & Develop - Recognizes opportunities with direct reports to provide coaching; is constantly on the lookout for development opportunities for direct reports; over time, builds reputation for developing and promoting direct reports. Encourages leaders at all levels to make coaching and developing others a priority; guides leaders on how to effectively coach and develop others.

Skills and Experience Required:

Substantial relevant work experience required, including leadership of small projects or portions of large projects.

Champions OEM concerns and advocate for OEM needs within Cummins:

  • Works with OEM on powertrain system integration support

  • On-site controls development support

  • Plant build support

  • Issue troubleshooting – ability to lead issues to completion and work with Cummins

  • Ability to lead complex projects to completion

Technical knowledge Required:

  • Demonstrated prior battery integration experience required

  • Demonstrated prior knowledge of battery controls and electric powertrain controls

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, University, or equivalent degree in Engineering required. Master's degree or equivalent advanced degree in Engineering is preferred. Internal candidates should be green belt certified or in the process.

Compensation and Benefits

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience .
