This is an exciting opportunity in Huddersfield for a Sub Systems Product Engineer.
As a Product Engineer, within the Flow Control sub-system engineering group at Cummins Turbo Technologies, you will work on industry leading, global engineering projects to deliver engineering solutions for various Flow Control components & assemblies within the following turbocharger sub-system’s; waste-gate (including both pneumatic and electric actuation), Variable Geometry (VGT), exhaust throttle valves and rotary control valves.
Your impact will be seen in these and other ways:
Applying sound knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the design, development, analysis and release of Flow Control components and sub-systems through the product life cycle from initial concept through to end of life.
Contributing to the creation of design specifications, considering application, cost, weight, performance, product life, manufacture, assembly and service.
Verifying designs, using a variety of analysis and functional & durability tests, interpreting the results and able to drive decisions whilst assessing the risks attached.
Leading small projects or portions of large projects.
Skills & Experience Required:
1 to 2 years’ experience working in a specialist role (product development engineer for example)
Good understanding of basic mechanical engineering principles, such as; mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis etc.
Ability to define & comprehend a problem, identify & verify possible causes and identify, validate and implement solutions.
Can select, specify or develop rig, cell or engine test methods appropriate to the validation criteria & technical requirements for the component / sub-system assembly being validated.
Ability to process, analyse & interpret data from engineering tests, engineering analysis or manufacturing/supplier processes to drive design decisions.
Understands the underlying principles, techniques and procedures to design components so they can be cost effectively manufactured and assembled.
Appreciation of cross-functional requirements during product design and development process, such as; other engineering functions, customer engineering, program & account management, manufacturing, supply chain, service, purchasing and suppliers.
Ability to generate project plans, track and monitor progress against plans and communicate progress to appropriate team members.
Written communication; technical presentations, technical reports, meeting minutes & email.
Verbal communication; formal and informal verbal presentations, lead & participate in internal and external discussions with suppliers and customers.
Required Education, Licenses or Certifications
- Degree qualified (in engineering or automotive etc)
Compensation and Benefits
Salary - £29,500 - £38,500 (dependent on experience)
