This is an exciting opportunity in Shoreview, MN for a PLC Software Engineer.

Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems

Product Validation.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Applies specialized knowledge of engineering principles and practices across various areas and projects in one or more of the following areas: development and maintenance of subsystem or component level requirements; development of subsystem or component verification and validation plans; architecture and generation of concept designs and functional allocation of subsystem requirements to components; and/or development of subsystem interface agreements, installation / application guidelines and quality assurance procedures.

  • Applies technical expertise on complex components or projects and works under minimal supervision.

  • Leads small projects or portions of large projects.

  • Provides technical direction for a project or a project team.

  • Participates as a key contributor and is accountable for project success.

  • Influences at department or program management level.

  • Provides input on program-related decisions.

  • Proposes innovative initiatives and projects.

  • Demonstrates depth of knowledge of engineering discipline(s) and leverages expertise on other projects.

  • Troubleshoots complex problems and recommends appropriate actions.

  • Assists with the transfer of knowledge; coaches and mentors less experienced engineers.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Relevant work experience required (3-7 years)

  • Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Technologies – proficient in the use, develop, test, and troubleshooting of PLC logic and hardware. Detailed understanding of PLC based machine control and communication technologies. Ability to interpret customer specifications to design electrical and logical requirements for desired product performance and functionality.

  • Human Machine Interface (HMI) – Proficient in HMI application software, communication ports, setup, and networking of industry protocols. Ability to integrate and program HMI applications as part of complex specific customer order.

  • Power Transfer Devices – Understands electrical power system topologies and the transfer schemes and devices used to transfer power from one source to another.

  • Power Management Techniques – Understanding of the flow, power quality, metering, and protection of an electrical power system, and various industry terms used to manage power flow, such as peak shave, base load, load add, and load shed.

  • Paralleling Systems Controls – Involves having in depth knowledge of PLC, HMI, protective relay, communications software structure and hardware content to be able to navigate using available interface tools. Able to discuss functionality with project engineering controls engineers. Understand the basics of paralleling systems controls and switchgear hardware and software. Able to use various interface tools to determine status of component and/or system performance.

  • Switchgear and Paralleling Systems Functionality and Performance – Complete knowledge of paralleling systems and switchgear operation and performance evaluation. Able to evaluate performance data and determine proper operation. Understand basic paralleling system functions and performance expectations. Can assist in the troubleshooting of paralleling systems and switchgear problems.

  • Switchgear Test Control Systems – Thorough knowledge of paralleling systems and switchgear software and hardware. Able to navigate and manipulate installed systems. Understand the basics of how to set up and adjust existing systems. Can assist in the troubleshooting of system problems.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

College, university, or equivalent degree in Engineering required. Green Belt certification required.

Base salary rate commensurate with experience .
