This is an exciting opportunity in Brussels for a Government Relations Manager.

The Role

As the Government Relations Manager you will be the face of Cummins to external parties such as the EU Commission and multiple European Governments at all levels.

You will be representing the business and a key part of your role will be establishing a strong network within Government to understand and communicate regulatory and legislative changes and information within the business helping to adapt strategies and plans as well as working to ensuring Cummins voice is heard during consultation and discussion.

Your duties in the role will include:

  • Providing input into legislative and policy initiatives and strategies related to industry and community specific items of interest to Cummins at any level of government;

  • Drafting, and advocating Cummins positions towards proposed legislation and regulation, through white papers, testimonies, public consultation, and other appropriate activities.

  • Building awareness within Government circles of Cummins as a key player in electrified and hydrogen-based powertrain markets

  • Building and maintaining a network and strong relationships with legislators, authorities, industry bodies and regulatory agencies;

  • Providing input into and helping to implement government affairs strategies to build Cummins reputation as a thought-partner to governmental authorities.

  • Establishing rapport with industry associations and trade organizations to ensure representation of Cummins’ interests; participating in industry and trade groups to develop and advocate for common industry positions.

  • Working with the business to understand its goals and objectives to ensure that government relations activities are aligned to the business;

  • Identifying risk to the enterprise from government actions.

  • Complying with all laws, regulations, and ethical concerns within government relations activities and broadly across the organization.

  • Developing position papers and discussion guides for those who act as an external spokesperson with public policy stakeholders for the company; speaking at external and internal meetings regarding public policy issues and activities

  • Developing an awareness of and suggesting sponsorship opportunities at all levels of government;

  • Providing input into marketing initiatives in Europe;

  • Contributing to the corporate responsibility strategy for Europe

  • Understanding all activities with Government Relations in Europe;

  • Maintaining strong relationships with related outside consulting firms in Europe.


Skills and Experience Required:

  • Must have significant experience of working in Government Relations

  • Must have previous experience working either in or closely with the EU Commission

  • Must have the personal passion and gravitas to represent Cummins at all levels of Government

  • Strong communicator and experience in communicating with multiple, very diverse audiences

  • Strong networker adept at building relationships

  • Highly intelligent with ability to grasp the complexities and interconnections of a complex, global, technology company

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

  • Degree level qualification required

  • Six Sigma Green Belt preferred

  • Fluent in English and French
