Battery Modelling & Controls Engineer

We are looking for a talented Battery Modelling & Controls Engineer to join our team specializing in engineering for our New Power Business Unit in Columbus, IN / your remote home office.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Create product differentiation for our battery systems by use of models and control/estimation theory

  • Accelerate the commercialization of new battery technologies by discovery and implementation of breakthroughs in modelling and controls

  • Establish Accelera as the premium brand in battery systems for commercial vehicles by virtue of superior controls which deliver augmented daily missions and exceptional durability

  • Delight our OEM customers with world-class battery systems which enable their vehicles outperform competitor vehicles

  • Operates as a recognized specialist in a discipline or product area within the immediate team.

  • Provides support and guidance to influence technical direction within a project team and continues to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • PhD or MS in an engineering or science discipline with a thesis topic directly in battery modelling and controls/estimation

  • Knowledge and experience in experimental electro-chemistry and battery materials

  • Experience in MATLAB Scripting data analysis and Simulink with verification and validation of SoC/SoH

  • Team player skills working with the BMS provider(s) and system integration engineers

Education, Licenses, Certifications

PhD or MS in an engineering or science discipline with a thesis topic directly in battery modelling and controls/estimation

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience

Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred

  • Owning the algorithm development and investigating issues, understanding causal mechanisms, recommending appropriate action, owning problem resolution, and documenting results.

  • Design the delivery plan for algorithms (considering cross-technical inputs)

  • Lead and design the battery modeling and algorithm features from inception to delivery

  • Lead and design experiments that can help in gathering information to train the model and algorithms

  • Hands-on experience in MATLAB Scripting data analysis and Simulink

  • Verification and Validation of SoC/SoH feature via MATLAB in the loop (MIL),

  • Support and work closely with the software team to validate the feature via Software in the loop (SIL), and Hardware in the loop (HIL)

  • Exceptional communicational skills verbal and written with the capability to manage upward

  • Knowledge of PTC Integrity and the defect life cycle is preferred

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
