This is an exciting opportunity in Columbus, IN for a Maintenance Supervisor. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems Product Validation.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

Supervises skilled tradesmen, vendors, and contractors in a facility.

Supervises the daily activities of the skilled tradesmen, vendors, and contractors.

Provides input into annual operating plan and capital plan for the facility; ensures that expenses are within budgeted amounts.

Provides input into utilities expense management strategies.

Develops strong relationships with skilled tradesmen, vendors, and contractors; ensures that contractors completing repairs and renovations to the facility; ensures that vendors meet corporate standards and deliver promised services and materials.

Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement in the facility.

Supervises, coaches, and motivates staff; provides guidance and direction on problems and issues; delegates works assignments considering employee skills and development needs.

Manages 3 shifts of 40 Skilled Trades (electricians, machine repairs and tool makers).



  • AssetUtilization Management - Method of management of equipment whichincorporates business objectives such as asset availability, productquality and overall equipment efficiency (OEE). Incorporates output todrive business decisions regarding staffing, equipment replacement /rebuilds, and redundant plant. Utilizes metrics such as Maintenance costas a percent of RAV (replacement asset value), stocked indirect material,repair parts, and operational supplies as a percent of RAV. Capable ofcalculating OEEs. Uses OEE data in decision making regarding improvementsin maintenance plan versus equipment renovation. Utilizes Mean TimeBetween Failures (MTBF), Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) data to adjustmaintenance plan. Uses efficiency data and utilization data to influencedecisions.

  • Equipment/ Capital Procurement - Understanding the requirements for purchasingtools and equipment according to Cummins Production EquipmentSpecifications. Capital purchases require the approval of a Request forCapital Appropriations (RFA) which includes justification of the projectfrom a financial/ strategic standpoint and must be completed in a specificformat defined by the documented procedure. Thorough understanding of theCummins Production Equipment Specifications. Significant experience inpurchasing tools and equipment. Has written significant Request forCapital Appropriations (over $100K).

  • FundamentalsOf Manufacturing - Basic competence in the body of knowledge as defined bythe Society of Manufacturing Engineers for a Certified ManufacturingTechnologist (CMfgT). The body of knowledge includes the following areas:Mathematics, Applied Science, Process Design, Materials, ManufacturingProcesses, Manufacturing Management, Manufacturing Economics, QualityControl, Computer Applications, and Automation. Working knowledge of theFundamentals of Manufacturing. More than 2 years of experience working asa Manufacturing Engineer, but not yet a Certified ManufacturingTechnologist (Society of Manufacturing Engineers), or local equivalent).

  • EstablishesPlans - Develops short- and long-range plans that are appropriatelycomprehensive, realistic, and effective in meeting goals; integratesplanning efforts across work units. Demonstrated results indicating deepknowledge of establishing plans. Uses structured tools, processes andsystems to plan initiatives and document work clearly. Ensures objectivesfor projects or initiatives are clearly linked to corresponding activitiesfor effective execution. Solicits customer feedback to incorporate intoplanning process. Demonstrates the ability to plan initiatives acrossmultiple teams/organizations, ensuring goals are consistent and aligned.Identifies critical constraints to executing plans and develops strategiesto deal with the constraints. Prepares highly complex estimates of budget,staff, and other resources.

  • MotivateOthers - Encourages and empowers others to achieve; establisheschallenging performance standards; creates enthusiasm, a feeling ofinvestment, and a desire to excel. Demonstrated results indicating deepknowledge of motivating others. Establishes challenging performancestandards and communicates them in a way that creates buy-in.   • ContractorManagement - The method of managing contractors is an extension orsupplement to in-house resources. Dispenses and reviews subcontractor éÌÙshandbook, reviews Cummins safety and security procedures, incidentreporting procedures. The creation and communication of the project plan(work instructions) to the contractor, the tracking of work performed,equipment modified, updates of drawings, etc. Extensive experience usingthe standard operating procedures. Can communicate with contractorsregarding the contractor's manual and site safety procedures. Can assurethe proper permits have been obtained and that a job plan with cleardeliverables has been created prior to the start of work.

  • ManageExecution - Assigns responsibilities; delegates to and empowers others;removes obstacles; allows for and contributes needed resources;coordinates work efforts when necessary; monitors progress. Demonstratedresults indicating deep knowledge of managing execution. Coordinatesperformance across regions, teams, and departments on complex projects andwork flows. Applies a broad range of planning and monitoring tools.Defines planning and review practices that result in few missed milestonesand minimal surprises. Effectively delegates to ensure completion ofcomplex projects and work. Monitors progress of others and redirectsefforts when goals change or are not met. Measures effectiveness ofexecution through defined metrics and disciplined monitoring.

  • ProjectManagement - Capable of effectively managing complex projects with littleto no guidance.


5 plus years of experience industrial manufacturing experience, including supervisory experience, required.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

College, university, or equivalent degree required.

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
