This is an exciting opportunity for Mechanical Systems Technical Specialists – Experimental #IN949 in Seymour, Indiana. Your impact will happen in these and other ways:
Conduct experiments using third party and in-house tools to determine structural performance of mechanical components and systems.
Evaluate experimental equipment and methods to provide improvement recommendations.
Utilize results from experiments to determine the validity of the design to meet customer requirements.
Obtain input and negotiate with Design, Thermal Sciences, Materials and Product Validation and deliver key structural performance parameters like motion, load, natural frequencies, stress, design margin, life, and sound power to Design and Product Validation.
Make decisions in the area of structural design (materials and their processing as well as geometry) that impact structural performance of mechanical components and systems.
Apply and improve tools such as vibration analysis, digital signal processing, instrumentation and strain gaging required to support the processes and enable high quality decision making.
Apply Principles of Fatigue and Durability to determine life of components and systems via numerical modeling and physical measurements, evaluate component temperatures, natural frequencies, mode shapes, displacements, strains/stresses/wear, and fatigue life to draw conclusions.
Apply Principles of Noise and Acoustics to determine the acoustic behavior of components and systems, evaluate both air and structure borne noise, sound power levels, sound quality, flexible body motion, and natural frequencies to draw input to influence design decisions.
Determine motion of components and systems and evaluate rigid and flexible body motion, natural frequencies, mode shapes, displacements, velocities, accelerations, friction, and wear.
Analyze technical data using descriptive statistics, probability distributions, graphical analysis, and statistical inference to model relationships between response and independent variables using analysis of variance, regression, and design of experiments to make data-based decisions.
Interpret test equipment specifications from test standards, select and integrate appropriate equipment, instrumentation, and software to control boundary conditions and collect measurement data.
Assess capability of the lab equipment against the requirements and support infrastructure as part of Product Function Test System Design.
Select appropriate equipment and techniques to operate the product and record operational data in a hardware of software-based testing environment most often required as part of the product verification or validation plan.
Evaluate quality and validity of measurement data, analyze test results using accepted standards to characterize product capabilities in alignment with the requirements of project teams.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications:
- Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering, or related field and 4 years of experience as an Applied Mechanics Engineer or related position.

Compensation and Benefits
Base hourly rate commensurate with experience plus bonus.
