DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented School to Work Student - VPI Technical Sourcing to join our team specializing in Purchasing for our Cummins Inc. facility in Columbus, IN .
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Support Technical Sourcing : Apply foundational supply chain and engineering knowledge to assist in sourcing activities that drive product development forward.
Enable Product Development : Help coordinate input from project leaders, engineers, suppliers, and tech teams to ensure robust designs and smooth delivery of prototypes and production changes.
Contribute to Risk Mitigation : Assist in developing and supporting technical risk plans that protect product integrity and customer satisfaction.
Facilitate Cross-Team Collaboration : Play a key role in aligning deliverables across engineering, sourcing, and supplier teams to support new and existing product initiatives.
Assist in Data Analysis : Support technical product specialists by performing analyses that inform decisions in Product Preceding Technology (PPT) and Value Package Introduction (VPI) processes.
Improve Process Efficiency : Help streamline tactical workflows within the technical sourcing team, contributing to faster and more coordinated execution.
Support Innovation : Contribute to early-stage product development by helping gather and organize technical inputs that shape future product designs.
Build Technical Knowledge : Gain hands-on experience with engineering and sourcing processes, positioning yourself to grow into more advanced roles over time.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Document Coordination : Ability to manage and organize business documents that support supplier agreements and protect intellectual property.
Cross-Functional Engagement : Skilled in connecting engineering teams with the right sourcing contacts to support new technologies and supplier needs.
Procurement Support : Capability to assist in meeting procurement deliverables for defined projects, ensuring alignment with timelines and goals.
Information Preparation : Proficiency in preparing clear, concise materials for management and functional reviews to support decision-making.
Strategic Thinking : Understanding sourcing strategies for early-stage product programs like PPT and VPI, helping guide long-term planning.
Education/Experience
Must be 16 years of age, in high school or post-secondary school.
No GPA Requirement.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are needed.
Strong analytical skills are necessary
Interest in or pursuing a career in engineering or supply chain management is preferred.

Additional Responsibilities Unique to the Position:
- Assists the Technical Sourcing Team with key VPI Deliverables including but not limited to sending packaging data sheet requests to suppliers, creating Requests for Quotation (RFQs), Initiating Should-Cost requests, Creating PPAP requests, updating the VPI Purchasing Matrix and Costed Bill of Material, working Engineering Releases, and setting up the new design parts in the procurement systems for the manufacturing site(s) and aftermarket parts distribution centers.

final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate’s
qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
