Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Plans, develops, and implements a global sourcing and purchasing strategy across business units.

  • Directs the purchasing function for all materials, supplies, and equipment in support of corporate purchasing operations and goals.

  • Ensures purchasing strategy reflects diverse requirements and complies with all regulatory standards.

  • Provides broad leadership in sourcing processes that capitalize on opportunities for the business.

  • Leads the selection of vendors and other sources of supplies; builds strong and trusting supplier relationships.

  • Negotiates highly complex purchasing contracts; directs the assurance that all terms of purchasing agreements are met by suppliers.

  • Establishes target setting goals and objectives.

  • Mitigates risk and promotes compliance by establishing and maintaining valued relationships with internal stakeholders.

  • Communicates regularly with purchasing leadership at all levels.

  • Manages the identification and implementation of continuous improvement strategies within key processes.

  • Ensures the appropriate tools are available to capture data and information critical to decision-making in the organization.

  • Advises and consults with internal business partners on sourcing processes and procedures.

  • Actively contributes to annual planning (AOP) at the business unit and corporate level.

  • Presents sourcing and procurement issues to corporate leadership; provides thought leadership for addressing issues.

  • Actively promotes and uses fundamental operating mechanisms such as the Cummins Operating System (COS) and Six Sigma.

  • Develops, leads, and motivates management staff; sets goals in training and development, performance, and career planning.

  • Formulates annual operational and financial budgets as they relate to unit objectives.

Project Management - Establishes and maintains the "Balanced Triangle" of Scope, Schedule and Resources for a temporary effort (a "project").

Strategic mindset - Seeing ahead to future possibilities and translating them into breakthrough strategies.

Supplier Contract Development - Creates contracts to cover commercial and legal relationship between Cummins and supplier; incorporates commercial requirements and laws of regions, drive consensus amongst stakeholders and develops a mutually agreed and legally approved contract created using a Direct Supplier Supply Agreement (DSA) and the C-Review Process and Negotiations Excellence skill.

Supplier Contract Management - Assesses and enforces contractual terms and conditions; monitors key performance indicators throughout the term of the contract to ensure we reach the intended value of the contract; manages supplier delivery of product to Cummins requirements.

Supplier Performance Management - Leverages functional roles and responsibilities to appropriately manage supplier performance; negotiates defined metrics and supplier management processes to ensure robust management by all functional stakeholders; assimilates cross-functional, cross-site performance data across geographies; ensures suppliers awareness to performance deficiencies and communicates Cummins expectations relative to continuous improvement.

Supply Base Risk Management - Minimizes supplier risk to Cummins by proactively mitigating risks through use of risk analysis tools and risk mitigation playbook to manage three key risks including continuity of supply, reputational risk, and risk to our margins of parts by minimizing disruption and services throughout supply chain; manages and leverages supplier selection and dual sourcing opportunities as a first line of defense against supplier risk.

Experience

Minimum of 7 years professional experience.

Experience in strategy, managerial, and budgetary competence preferred.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, university or equivalent degree in a related business field such as supply chain management required; graduate degree in business or related field desirable.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary rate commensurate with experience. Additional benefits vary between locations and include options such as our 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, Cash Balance Pension Plan, Medical/Dental/Life Insurance, Health Savings Account, Domestic Partners Coverage and a full complement of personal and professional benefits.
