System Performance and Emissions - Senior Engineer

Description

As the Senior Engineer for MY’25.5 15L diesel,

  • Support simulation-based activities to develop engine and afterterment controls, as well as assess product robustness. (Simulation tools include GT Power, AVL Boost, Matlab/Simulink, etc.)

  • Support experimental demonstration (both on-engine and in-vehicle) to validate engine and aftertreatment controls, troubleshoot issues, adjust calibration content, etc.

  • Responsible for delivering both performance and OBD diagnostic calibration content to ensure product meets criteria emissions and greenhouse gas requirements, as well as OBD in-use and emissions requirements.

  • Collaborate with other system teams to develop and/or troubleshot calibration content

  • Support engine and vehicle data analysis to evaluate system performance and identify/mitigate issues through 7-step problem solving process. (Tools include Matlab, Excel, Concerto, Python, Minitab, etc.)

  • Document and publish results through technical reports and present findings via cross-functional design review forums

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Post-graduate (Master’s) degree relevant to this discipline area, preferred

  • Prior entry level work in engineering equivalent to this role

Applies Principles of Combustion and Emissions Science - Interprets and predicts the performance of combustion systems by leveraging a quantitative and intuitive comprehension of the conversion of chemical energy to heat by reacting a fuel with an oxidizer, the formation of exhaust pollutants, modeling tools, controls, and experimental tools to answer key questions about the system or component.

Applies Principles of Thermodynamics and Energy Conversion Systems - Interprets and predicts the performance of energy conversion systems such as IC engines, gas turbines, fuel cells, and batteries, by leveraging a quantitative and intuitive comprehension of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, modeling tools, controls, and experimental tools to answer key questions about the system or component.

Product Problem Solving - Solves product problems using a process that protects the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; and identifies the systemic root causes and recommended actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.

System Requirements Engineering - Uses appropriate methods and tools to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed; establishes acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis, allocation and negotiation; tracks the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle; assesses the impact of changes to system requirements on project scope, schedule, and resources; creates and maintains information linkages to related artifacts.

Systems Thinking - Defines the system of interest by drawing the boundaries, identifying its context within its environment, its interfaces, and that it has a lifecycle to aid in planning the problem statement, scope and deliverables ; analyzes linkages and interactions between elements that comprise the system of interest by using appropriate methods, models and integration of outcomes to understand the system, predict its behavior and devise modifications to it in order to produce the desired effects.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required. Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience

Prior entry level engineering equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred

The position is for Titanium (MY’25.5) 15L team for SystemPerformance and Emission Senior Engineer. MY’25.5 15L provides uniqueopportunity to work on integrated diesel engine coupled with Dual dosingAftertreatment and advanced Thermal management CDA/VVT.

As the MY25.5 15L diesel CPE Senior Engineer,responsibilities will include the following:

  • Supporting performance hardware selection

  • Drive/Support simulation-based activities as appropriate(i.e. GT Power, CyberCal, VMS, etc)

  • Developing/delivering E,D,L,P calibration tuning to meetcriteria emissions (i.e. NOx, HC, etc), and CO2 requirements

  • Participate in Design Reviews

  • Calibration ownership includes engine and SCR relatedcontrol tuning, as well as OBD diagnostics

o New hardware/controls required to meet emissions/CO2requirements

o Tuning to be developed via combination of simulation andexperimental testing

  • Conducting robustness assessments via ALD/limitedexperimental testing

  • Supporting/Execution of pre-certification/certificationactivities

  • Supporting DF/OBD aging testing

  • Supporting field test data analysis

  • Supporting FIRG issues

  • Collaboration with extended teams (i.e. DS&C, FSSC,Controls, etc)
