About the role

As our Field Service Diesel Mechanic, this residential role will see you based in Rockhampton supporting our valued customers on the Capricorn coast, overlapping regions with our Emerald and Mackay teams. Working autonomously but as a part of our wider Emerald team you will report to the Emerald Customer Service Advisor but be responsible for prioritising and scheduling your own work and developing customer relationships to increase demand for Cummins support in your region. You will be based at our Cummins shared workshop and will service our customers across heavy on-highway, rail, marine, agriculture and power generation in our 3rdparty workshop, on our customers sites and in situ for emergency breakdowns. This is a Monday to Friday role with a weekend on-call requirement.

Key responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for field service and 3rdparty workshop support to a wide variety of Cummins customers

  • Complete mechanical warranty, minor and major repairs, engine strip down and rebuilds, servicing and troubleshooting using electronic diagnosis

  • Build customer relationships on the solid foundation of supporting our customers in any way we can.

  • Prioritise work in emergency situations, rescheduling booked work and performing breakdown maintenance tasks ensuring our customers are back up and running

  • Act as a conduit to our local customers to ensure their parts requirements are met, working closely with the Emerald parts department

  • Keep all records and documentation up to date

  • Put safety first, every day

  • Seek out opportunities and help build the business by promoting Cummins products and brand

  • Participate in skills and product training to expand your capabilities across our engine range

About you

  • A Heavy Diesel or Light vehicle trade qualification – essential

  • Solid experience in a heavy diesel role, with experience on engines up to 15L.

  • Be keen to further expand your experience in the service and maintenance of high horse power (HHP) engines and heavy diesel products across heavy on and off highway, rail, marine, agriculture, mining and power generation.

  • Previous field service exposure would be highly regarded, with the diesel knowledge and ability to work autonomously essential

  • Solid diagnostic and IT capabilities

  • Comfortable in working remotely, travelling all day to reach customers and able to respond to work at short notice when on call

  • A friendly and motivated approach to developing relationships to motivation to seek out new clients and business opportunities

  • A mature attitude and logical and methodical approach to your work

  • Flexibility to work away from home for a few days

  • Easily adaptable, practical, down to earth, and happy working autonomously in a site environment
