This is an exciting opportunity in Fridley, MN for a Senior Software Engineer. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems Product Validation.

  • Applies technical expertise on complex components or projects with minimal supervision.

  • Leads small projects or portions of large projects

  • Provides technical direction for a project or a project team.

  • Participates as a key contributor and is accountable for project success.

  • Influences at department or program management level. Provides input on program-related decisions.

  • Proposes innovative initiatives and projects.

  • Demonstrates depth of knowledge of engineering discipline(s) and leverages applications expertise on other projects.

  • Troubleshoots complex problems and recommends appropriate actions.

  • Assists with the transfer of knowledge; coaches and mentors less experienced engineers.

Experience

Intermediate level of relevant work experience required, such as responsibility for several components of a project or a complex component of a project.

  • Applies and improves PLC software development processes and tools to customize power systems for out customers. Processes include applying IEC 61131-3 programming languages, Function Block Diagram, Structured Text and Sequential Flow Diagram, compiling and simulating the logic.

  • Customizes HMI to meet the customer’s power system and functional requirements.

  • Investigates PLC and HMI software problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and documents results.

  • Obtains input and negotiates with project engineering teams and software subject matter experts and delivers verified software features, components, builds to product teams.

  • Makes decisions in the areas of software requirements, architecture, design, implementation and test that impact the quality and performance of software for power system applications.

  • Responsible for review of less-experienced developers/testers’ work to ensure robust, reusable, and efficient designs.

  • PLC Software Design and Construction - Constructs PLC software using industry best practices and robust software engineering principles; verifies software updates to ensure quality products. (Advanced)

  • – HMI Software Design - Constructs HMI software applications using industry best practices and robust software engineering principles; verifies software updates to ensure quality products. (Advanced)

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, University, or equivalent degree in Engineering required. Advanced degrees are preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience plus bonus.
