We are looking for a talented Advanced Sourcing Manager – Eaton Cummins Automated Transmissions Technologies to join our team specializing in Purchasing Planning for the Components Business Segment in Galesburg, MI.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Leads the overall coordination of complex technical development and commercial activities and is accountable for the project management of supplier technical risk and quality in the early product development. Integrates the requirements of the many interdisciplinary and cross-functional stakeholders towards supplier product development.

  • Actively influence the design and project risk trade-offs that impact project cost or supplier early engagement without sacrificing quality expectations. The main focus will include working on business processes of Product Preceding Technology (PPT) and other early product development activities.

  • Provides leadership to complex supplier relationships through supplier agreements required to protect intellectual properties.

  • May coordinate and direct work of technical procurement teams, up to and including direct management of small to mid-sized teams.

  • Coaches and mentors across a global business unit or corporate area.

  • Obtains input and negotiates with project leadership, suppliers, customer teams, product engineers, or technology teams to ensure the delivery of robust prototype and production designs, technical risk mitigation plans, and coordinated deliverables of new or current product change activity.

  • Supports all Supplier Early Engagement work and new technology development.

  • Engages with project teams and engineering to understand needs for new suppliers and technologies and connects engineering with the appropriate sourcing team.

  • For defined projects, serve as the procurement team member and meet the required procurement deliverables. Where a project includes a deliverable of a demonstration product, support the procurement cycle.

  • Prepare and deliver information for management and functional reviews.

  • Establishes preliminary new product program sourcing strategies for Product Preceding Technology (PPT) or other projects that are moving to VPI.

  • In conjunction with the Technical Cost COE, use Should Cost and/or other tools to develop piece price targets for components and product material cost targets.

  • Supplier Contract Development - Develops contracts based on the templates available that cover commercial and legal relationships between Cummins and supplier; incorporates commercial requirements and legal requirements in the region(s) that are covered by the contracts; drives engagement between stakeholders following the Supplier Agreement Contracting Process (SACP) and negotiations excellence skills.

  • Project Issue and Risk Management - Manages the process to identify, assess, and prioritize issues and risks using recommended tools and disciplines. Drives actions to minimize, monitor, and control risks and issues and to maximize the most positive outcomes possible.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or other relevant technical disciplines is required.

  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience

  • Demonstrated success having worked in a Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering or commercial experience on lower complexity product development activities, translating customer needs and negotiating into product development plans, technical profiles, and/or product specifications with a proven track record of successful product decisions.

  • This role will be an employee of the Eaton Cummins Joint Venture (ECJV): Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies. Internal applicants are those who are currently employed by the ECJV. Additional responsibilities of this role include:

New Product Development:

  • Align with ECJV Product Strategy and Engineering organizations on a 3–5-year long-term strategy.

  • Assess needs for new suppliers to support initiatives and partner with the Supply Chain Manager to create new product sourcing strategies.

  • Arrange early engagement with a variety of capable suppliers.

  • Utilize 'Should Cost' tools to develop piece price targets for components and product material cost targets.

  • Engages with project teams and engineering to understand needs for new suppliers, service providers, and technologies and connects engineering with appropriate sourcing teams.

  • Support ongoing design changes for warranty improvements through communications with suppliers, coordination of changes, and pricing impacts.

  • Partner with SCM PM to obtain input and negotiate with project leadership, suppliers, customer teams, product engineers, or technology teams to ensure the delivery of prototype and production designs, and risk mitigation plans, and coordinate new or current product change activity.

Emerging Technology and Supplier Strategy:

  • Actively seek out new suppliers and/or service providers for emerging technology including contract manufacturing, dual sourcing opportunities in support of new products, USMCA requirements, or business continuity purposes.

  • Develop a strong understanding of supplier product lines, capabilities, locations, capacity, willingness to invest, and strategy to grow.

  • Gain intelligence from competitive studies to understand competitor supply chain strategies.

  • Create a supplier assessment program to determine if a potential supplier could be a partner with ECJV.

  • Support Supply Chain team with RFQ process and issuance of award letters when required.

  • Partner with Supply Chain Manager as co-owner of Supply Chain Business Continuity plan.

  • The ideal candidate will have experience in e-mobility/electrification applications, contract manufacturing sourcing, and strong negotiation skills.

Material Cost Reduction Strategy:

  • Partner with the Director of Operations, SCM Manager, and Category Management to establish a 3–5-year supply chain cost reduction strategy in NA including resourcing and negotiation opportunities. May also include opportunities to reduce packaging/freight costs.

  • Manage USMCA compliance strategy in parallel with material cost reduction strategy.

  • Partner with Supply Chain to develop a measurement system and governance model to track supplier performance and improvement plans.

  • Partner with the VAVE team to integrate VAVE savings into the overall BOM cost reduction strategy.

  • Drives accountability amongst the Supply Chain Team and Category Managers to execute cost reduction strategy results.

  • Provide routine strategy and progress updates to the organization.
