Our Distribution Business Unit in Europe consists of a distributor and dealer support network. They deliver reliable sales and service of durable and high performing engine, generator set and aftermarket products to our regionally based (global) partners. Working in a diverse, multi-cultural and innovative space, you’ll interact directly with our customers, build relationships and develop high tech solutions that will fuel your advanced career skill set. This is an exciting opportunity in Gross- Gerau for a dynamic Applications Engineer with fantastic customer service skills and a genuine passion for hands- on engineering.

You will join a team of Application Engineers, covering a broad variety of our customers across Germany and some of main land Europe. You will be an integral team member, representing Cummins on client site, managing the design and installation of large diesel engines and their relevant sub systems.

This is the perfect role for you if you are looking for an opportunity that will test your technical problem solving skills and allow you to work on a variety of engine applications.

Your impact will be seen in these and other ways:

  • Development of technical specifications for our customers’ vehicles, implementing new design configurations and delivering high performance equipment and systems solutions in a variety of applications

  • Collaborate with the sales and marketing team to identify suitable products and solutions for the customer.

  • Engage your engineering expertise in the areas of product selection, design and integration that will optimize engine performance

  • Investigate integration and installation problems, recommending appropriate action and owning problem resolution with the guidance of system experts within the team

  • Ensure installation quality by validating prototype machine performance and ensuring installations meet Cummins requirements.

  • Represent the customer during participation in new product development programs, design reviews and product change request processes


To be a success in this role you will need;

  • Broad, technical knowledge and experience in the following; mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, software

  • Existing experience working on engines and their related sub systems

  • To be a qualified Techniker and/ or Meister or to have obtained a degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Automotive Engineering

  • Demonstrate a tenacious personality and the ability to manage a high volume of customer needs at any one time

  • Customer focussed with a desire to build strong customer relationships and delivering customer – centric solutions

  • Results driven even under tough circumstances

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of the customer

  • An analytical mind with the ability to interrogate data and from that come up with innovate solutions to potential problems.

  • You must be able to communicate fluently in German
