We are looking for a talented Metrology Programmer, specializing in VPI Next Gen Metrology, to join our Quality Team in Mineral Point, WI.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Assists engineers, under minimal supervision, in applying technical principles of dimensional measurement science as related to test systems and processes.

  • Provides basic and complex product and component testing using a range of measurement methods and Measurement and Test Equipment (M&TE).

  • Develop and document testing procedures, by using best practices and/or consensus standards, including automated procedures as needed.

  • Provides advanced programming, training, and operation of M&TE.

  • Acts as a technical resource in the day-to-day lab operations, assisting engineering and quality staff in providing complex measurements and M&TE support.

  • Assists customers in understanding/interpreting product specifications and application of measurement data.

  • Participates in inter-laboratory comparisons and measurement assurance programs.

  • Participates in uncertainty studies associated with measurement or calibration results.

  • Maintains the laboratory quality system.

  • Applies knowledge of applicable quality standards (e.g. 17025, ISO 9001, AITF 16949) and appropriate Cummins procedures.

  • Coordinates purchases of appropriate lab services and consumables.

  • Ensures proper maintenance and calibration of the lab M&TE.

  • Reports appropriate data quality metrics associated with assigned work.

  • Participates in the development of laboratory strategy, SIPOC (Supplier, Input, Process, Output, Customers) process, and scorecard development.

  • Supports continuous improvement activities related to data quality, lab quality system, etc.

  • Provide training to apprentices and technicians.

  • Customer focus - Building strong customer relationships and delivering customer-centric solutions.

  • Communicates effectively - Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.

  • Measurement Science - Analyzes measurement processes throughout the relevant traceability chain to identify and quantify sources of measurement uncertainty relevant to the appropriate applied measurement science, “Metrology” e.g. Chemical, Dimensional, Electrical, Mechanical, Optical, Radiation, and Physical.

  • Laboratory Management - Leads technical resources while managing the business aspects of a laboratory using measures to control both the technical and business aspects of the organization and assuring the requirements of the appropriate certifications and/or accreditations are met.

  • Data Quality - Identifies, understands, and corrects flaws in data that support effective information governance across operational business processes and decision-making.

  • Dimensional Metrology - Applies dimensional measurement science in the development and application of measurement/inspection processes that deliver capable measurement results, supporting design validation and conformity assessment meeting regulatory, customer, and product requirements.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

  • High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.

  • A regionally applicable Certification (e.g. US Department of Labor) or two-year associate degree from an accredited college program in a relevant field of study.

  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience

  • Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training, or on-the-job experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop inter-laboratory comparisons and measurement assurance programs.

  • Leads uncertainty studies associated with measurement or calibration results. Ensures proper maintenance and calibration of lab M&TE.

  • Supports continuous improvement activities related to data quality, lab quality system, etc.

  • Support the JES site metrology team in their development and new program launches (MY24, MY27, and Stellantis program).

  • He has the required significant work experience and in-depth knowledge required for this opportunity.

Quality

  • Follows all applicable standard work, process documentation, and quality procedures such as Statistical Process Control (SPC), poka-yoke, and visual standards.

  • Raises issues to minimize cost and quality exposures.

  • Performs quality inspections.

  • Identifies and controls non-conforming material.

Delivery

  • Operates manual and automated equipment to manufacture and assemble products in order to create the proper characteristics and dimensions necessary to meet customer expectations.

  • Demonstrates a high level of competency in core work skills.

  • Achieves production goals.

  • Works at the required cycle time or defined engineering standard.

  • Maintains clean and orderly work area, including routine housekeeping tasks and machine cleaning tasks, and performs planned operator care and maintenance tasks.

  • Remains flexible and performs other miscellaneous duties, as required, to meet production goals.

  • Works with peers, skilled trades, and support staff to maintain and identify equipment needing repair.

Teamwork

  • Communicates effectively with the assigned team and with all support teams.

  • Completes training and personal development in line with business requirements.

  • Participates actively in ways to improve quality, safety, process, material flow, and employee development.

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
