North America Payroll Director
Description
We are looking for a dynamic, talented North America Payroll Director (Flexible Location) to join our team specializing in payroll operations for our Cummins Business Services headquartered in Nashville, TN. The role is designated hybrid and can be based anywhere in the U.S. with limited travel to Nashville, TN.
In this role, the leader will make an impact in the following ways:
Provide strategic direction and oversee the payroll, time and attendance, and payroll compliance for US and Canadian payroll operations, for over 30K employees on multiple payroll cycles
Ensure accurate and timely delivery of payroll payments and reporting activities in compliance with legislative requirements, company policies and internal controls
Oversee payroll service delivery to ensure timely and accurate response to employee and business partner queries using case management tools
Develop and maintain process documentation and lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives by collaborating with key business partners and Payroll business analyst
Direct accurate and timely processing of year-end payroll adjustments in collaboration with Payroll Tax leader, ensuring that activities are appropriately resourced
Provide guidance to the team on best use of SAP (ADP/GlobalView) Payroll system
Direct the relationship with outside payroll service providers; manages the most complex issues with third party service providers; understands and champions system changes, upgrades, and government mandated changes to payroll
Lead the development of operational plans and monitors performance
Lead projects and initiatives focused on achieving performance excellence in payroll design and delivery
Keep up to date with new trends and technologies in the payroll area; collaborate with global team to ensure standardization of processes and technologies
Coach, mentor and provide leadership development to team members to optimize operational and service excellence to create a deeper bench of experienced talent
Qualifications
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Proven Leader: serve as the technical, and tactical leader; owner of all system execution and management
Payroll System SME: advanced knowledge of payroll operations and payroll processing using SAP Payroll in-house or ADP GlobalView (Processing services)
Data Analytics: discovers, interprets and communicates qualitative and quantitative data; determines conclusions relying on knowledge of business or functional frameworks; simultaneously applies statistics, data validity, data visualization, and problem solving approaches to effectively extract meaningful patterns and business insights; presents conclusions and outcomes that enable data driven business decisions
Human Resources Consulting: collaborates with partners to observe the environment and apply sound judgement informed by knowledge, skills, and experiences to identify and optimize opportunities to provide holistic solutions, while balancing the needs of stakeholders, primarily employees, with those of the organization
Payroll Administration: translates company policies, tax and legislative requirements in the delivery of accurate and timely employee payments and reporting; ensures compliance with applicable regulations and internal control procedures
Collaborates: building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
Customer focus: building strong customer relationships and delivering customer-centric solutions
Demonstrates self-awareness: using a combination of feedback and reflection to gain productive insight into personal strengths and weaknesses
Balances stakeholders: anticipating and balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders
Optimizes work processes: knowing the most effective and efficient processes to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement
Education/Experience
Ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
10 years of experience in payroll operations
CPA payroll management certificate or CPP preferred
Significant operational experience using SAP or ADP GV (hands on, able to direct staff in use of system), required
Experience with Excel features (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, Macros a plus)
Significant level of relevant work experience, including leadership and budgetary experience, required
Experience supporting internal compliance and payroll strategy, required
Experience leading payroll technology evaluation and implementation, desired

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
