We are hiring a Purchasing Leader for Cummins Filtration in Nashville, Tennessee. The ideal candidate will oversee sourcing, quality, plant liaison and operations teams to ensure continuity of supply. Leads strategy for business continuity planning within the business unit, commodity groups, and international regions. Directs the purchasing function for all materials, supplies, and equipment in support of corporate purchasing operations and goals. Ensures purchasing strategy reflects diverse requirements and overall business goals, as well as complies with all regulatory standards.

  • Mitigatesrisk and promotes compliance by establishing and maintaining valuedrelationships globally with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Communicatesregularly with purchasing and business leadership at all levels, includingglobal teams and stakeholders.

  • Leadsthe identification and implementation of continuous improvement strategies withinkey processes.

  • Activelysupports and drives acceptance of standardized business system solutions acrossthe supply chain.

  • Advisesand consults with internal business partners across the global on sourcingprocesses and procedures.

  • Activelyleads annual planning (AOP) at the business unit and corporate level.

  • Presentssourcing and procurement issues to corporate leadership; provides thoughtleadership for addressing issues.

  • Develops,leads, and motivates management staff; sets goals in training and development, performance,and career planning.

execution at Cummins. Is highly knowledgeable and skilled in a broad range of planning and monitoring tools and teaches tools and processes to others.

Set the aim - Demonstrated ability to improve and expand the application of setting the aim at Cummins. Successfully leads cross-organizational/functional planning for large program initiatives. Sets clear measurement standards to achieve business goals at an organizational level. Help other leaders set the aim with their respective teams. Works at multiple organizational levels to ensure there is alignment between the various team goals and the broader organizational vision.

Courageous Leadership: Tackles difficult issues with optimism and confidence. Shares sensitive messages or unpopular points of view in a motivating manner. Communicates transparently at all levels of the organization.

Champion Change - Demonstrated ability to improve and expand the application of championing change at Cummins. Demonstrates the effective use of change management tools, processes and systems on large initiatives across organizations, business units, functions and/or regions. Has championed change initiatives across cultures. Demonstrates the ability to assess potential impact of complex change on different levels of organization. Regularly coaches senior leaders on the change management process and how to effectively plan for and execute change successfully.

Think Strategically - Demonstrated ability to improve and expand the application of thinking strategically at Cummins. Possess a deep understanding of core business/functional issues and needs. Has a deep understanding of customer value propositions.

Negotiation with suppliers - understand negotiation theory and tactics; commodity or service, Cummins absolute business requirements, the supplier's TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) and the potential trade-offs; develop the strategy for and lead negotiations with suppliers to consistently deliver contracts that are easily managed by functional owners and operations.

Sourcing strategy development - able to perform at an advanced level in strategic analysis and formation. Proficient in the application of this knowledge/skill in a wide range of work situations. Experience leading the application at an entity or organization level.

Supplier relationship management - Understands the need for effective supplier relationships. Manages supplier relationships and ensures that Cummins customers (plants, technical centers, support groups) and suppliers effectively resolve issues. Leads strategic planning discussions with suppliers to ensure that they are capable of meeting both current and future needs of Cummins.

Supplier tooling & negotiations management - Routinely negotiate supplier tooling in daily work. Familiar with various types of tooling required across commodities such as dies, jigs, fixtures, molds, patterns, templates, gauges, etc. Understanding of tooling's impact on TCO and how to manage it from a cost standpoint. Experience in managing supplier tooling inventory, transferring tooling to new suppliers and overseeing supplier's management of tooling maintenance and refurbishment processes.

Supplier development & global sourcing - Constantly working with our suppliers to develop them into a supplier who understands what it is needed. Deal with many suppliers that are all over the world.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, university or equivalent degree in a related business field such as supply chain management required; graduate degree in business or related field recommended. MBA preferred.

Compensation andBenefits

Base annual salary commensurate with experience plus annual variable compensation. Additional benefits vary between locations and include options such as our 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, Cash Balance Pension Plan, Medical/Dental/Life Insurance, Health Savings Account, Domestic Partners Coverage and a full complement of personal and professional benefits.
