Diesel Engine Upfit Technician

Description

Cummins Sales and Service is looking for a Product Upfit Technician to support the Upfit production facility in Renton, WA.

  • Install value-added components to loose engines and generators to meet customer requirements and design specifications.

  • Light production assembly, including: drilling, bolting and light fabrication.

  • Interpret basic installation drawings and work as a team to accomplish installations.

  • Ability to read detailed equipment and part diagrams/prints of Cummins and OEM products and verify torque values referenced from established engineered guidelines.

  • General shop maintenance such as inspecting extension cords, replacing air lines, general maintenance, daily JSA (Job Safety Analysis) reports, welder inspections and daily time sheets.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Dependable, motivated and accountable for time sensitive projects.

  • Relevant work experience in a variety light assembly and/or fabrication applications.

  • Ability to learn company-specific software for job function.

  • Ability to utilize all shop and hand tools with an intermediate level of proficiency.

  • Ability to remain standing (work) on concrete floor upwards of 10 hours per day.

  • Requires working at heights using fall protection and proper PPE; must be comfortable working on ladders, scaffolds or scissor lifts.

  • Ability to follow processes, policies and interact in a professional business manner with internal and external stakeholders.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Technical degree and 2 years of experience as a Diesel/Automotive Technician or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred, but not required

  • Basic Microsoft Suite and computer skills required

  • Forklift certified preferred

  • Champion all Cummins and customer safety rules, including: maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly work area and fully participating in Cummins accident prevention and safety improvement activities

  • Respond to all customer requests courteously and professionally, in a timely and responsive manner

  • Stay apprised of new techniques relevant to the work being performed; achieve and maintain technical competency

  • Participate in routine building, equipment and general business maintenance, if needed

  • Be flexible and responsive to company demands from key stakeholders within the business

  • Be an owner in the department and contribute to safety talks, employee concerns matrix and measures of continuous improvement

Physical Requirements (times are approximate)

  • Standing 7.5 hours per day

  • Pushing/Pulling 4.0 hours per day

  • Sitting 1.5 hours per day

  • Lifting 1.5 hours per day

  • Lifting up to a maximum of 80 pounds

  • Bending 3.0 hours per day
