This is an exciting opportunity in Shoreview, MN for a Market Insights Manager. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems Product Validation.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Manages the development of market intelligence through the design, development, and delivery of information, reports, and projects that improve internal knowledge and accurately inform decision making.

  • Partners with segment teams on developing strategies and forming decisions that impact business performance.

  • Develops and deploys effective methods to monitor relevant market trends, competitive threats, and other market activity.

  • Generates informed, unbiased and credible market intelligence that furthers market understanding and supports decision making.

  • Aligns with business teams and acts as a thought partner in support of leadership’s decision-making processes.

  • Manages special projects and provides market input to further the understanding of specific aspects of the market to support informed decision making and strategy development.

  • Leverages competitive research and market analyses for ad hoc requests from assigned market segments and regions.

  • Leads efforts to understand market drivers and historical behaviors to build segment-specific forecasts in support of the strategic-planning process and other key initiatives.

  • Develops and leverages internal and external knowledge networks to build a comprehensive view of the market (e.g. vendors, trade shows, conferences, industry events).

  • Champions a culture of intelligence gathering, insight generation and value-added support

  • May manage a small team of Market Insights analysts who are responsible for conducting research, analyzing data, generating forecasts, writing reports and leading/supporting various projects.

Intuitive Listening And Adapting Solutions - Translates needs, expectations, or asks from customers, stakeholders, etc. into actionable solutions through active listening and intuition; chooses or produces solutions (e.g. process change, tool, product, service, etc.) to meet or exceed the customers’ or stakeholders’ needs or expectations or to provide value.

Market Analysis - Researches information using meaningful and valid sources and data to expand your knowledge of markets; analyzes findings by connecting dots and identifying trends to create a coherent image of the market; summarizes relevant insights by condensing, prioritizing, and translating how these impact our business.

Market Forecasting - Analyzes and interprets market data from a variety of internal and external sources and modeling to formulate unbiased market projections specific to business segment.

Market Positioning - Compiles market overview and trends to build frameworks which provide market insights to the decision making process

Storytelling - Develops and delivers a compelling narrative which resonates with a target audience and influences a decision or course of action.

Project Management - Establishes and maintains the "Balanced Triangle" of Scope, Schedule and Resources for a temporary effort (a "project").

Education, Licenses, Certifications

University or equivalent degree in marketing, sales, business administration, or related subject required. MBA or equivalent degree highly preferred. Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred

Experience

5-7 years in strategy, business, marketing, or market research. Market intelligence experience highly preferred. Business knowledge preferred

Additional qualifications of the ideal candidate include:

  • Solid understanding of power generation and energy markets (at least 3 - 5 years of experience), including emerging trends, industry dynamics, and competition is strongly preferred. Well networked into the industry.

  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, including hands-on experience with forecasting and modeling

  • Ability to translate large amounts of unstructured information and data into a clear story and to offer actionable recommendation

  • Comfort with ambiguity, adaptability, ability to effectively manage multiple projects with conflicting deadlines. Self-motivated and self-managed.

  • Strong interpersonal and consultative skills, clear history of influencing others without authority and collaborating with cross-functional partners at all levels within the organization.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary rate commensurate with experience. Additional benefits vary between locations and include options such as our 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, Cash Balance Pension Plan, Medical/Dental/Life Insurance, Health Savings Account, Domestic Partners Coverage and a full complement of personal and professional benefits.
