This is an exciting opportunity in Stockton on Tees for a Payroll Supervisor
Your impact will be seen in these and other ways:
Leads payroll processing activities for specific payroll groups including the preparation, processing and balancing of payroll.
Ensures the completeness of information from data interfaces and manual data sources.
Supports payroll processing activities utilizing internal or external payroll technologies.
Administers and reviews allowances and withholdings, taxes and other income and deductions.
Ensures that payroll is prepared according to internal processes and payments are calculated and paid accurately and timely; ensures that proper taxes and other deductions are withheld.
Reviews the issuance of checks, preparation of off-cycle or replacement checks, and maintenance of payroll system information; reviews the information prepared for general ledger entries and other accounting and financial reporting activities associated with payroll.
Leads the review and preparation of data necessary for the filing of payroll-related tax returns and miscellaneous withholding forms, ensures generation of year-end reports.
Serves as an internal and external resource on payroll related inquiries.
Leads continuous improvement projects and initiatives; supports the development and maintenance of payroll process documentation.
Ensures compliance with internal controls on payroll systems and compliance with tax and other payroll related legislation.
Coaches and mentors less experienced payroll administrators.
May provide supervision to payroll teams including assigning work according to availability, skills, and developmental needs; assesses performance and provides feedback to direct reports.
Skills and Experience Required:
Managing Payroll Team including assigning work according to availability, skills, and developmental needs; assesses performance and provides feedback to direct reports.
Managing these through Performance Management system and completing reviews and regular 1:1 meetings.
Regular review of Payroll Processes and documentation, ensuring all maintained and up to date
Coordinate process improvements and new system requirements with system Super users, seeing changes through to completion and delivery to customer.
Coordinating team through regular, adhoc and annual events such as Tax Year End processing, creating annual processing calendars, P11ds, P60’s etc
Managing regular review meetings with vendors to ensure service delivery requirements are met
Hosting Service Review Meetings with customers at sites. Load data for KPIs, Billing & Scorecard
Attending GCCB when changes for our region are being presented and participating to provide UK SME guidance
Responsible for approving/signing off all UK Payrolls including Bacs and Audit Reports. Approver for Payroll, in line with UK SOx controls.
Signatory for manual payments in local banking system. Back up approver and signatory for payrolls outside of UK
Dealing with escalation of Payroll/eTime system issues where first time resolution is not delivered
Ensuring you and team are fully up to date with legislative changes and implemented changes
Coordinating team to schedule Payroll Surgeries, Lunch & Learn curriculum and any new CSE initiatives
Coordinate and lead on Continuous Improvement projects (6S, VST, 7 Step) and work towards Green Belt certification
Strong Excel & Word skills are required
Good communication skills and analytical skills required
Good customer service skills are required for dealing with employees, key site contacts and vendors
Required Education, Licenses or Certifications
College, university, or equivalent degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field or equivalent experience required.
CIPP Foundation Degree In Payroll Management (Year 1) is desirable or an equivalent certificate in technical payroll skill
Compensation and Benefits
Salary 39-45K per annum (dependent on experience)
8% Variable bonus paid out annually dependent on company’s performance
