In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

We are looking for a talented Engineering student to join our Brake engineering team, located in Troy, MI.

This early entry on professional career allows the student to understand, learn and live the day-by-day Engineering activities. Which needs to stablish, product thinking and development of technical tasks at the product and cross-business integration level for current and future products within a given business unit or corporate area. This involves work across many steps in the product life cycle.

  • Assist Engineering in the design of various brake models, such as air and hydraulic wedge brakes, S-Cam brakes, air and hydraulic disc brakes, SAHR parking brakes and wet disc brakes for Specialty/Defense and Off-Highway areas.

  • Support brake Engineers on design and workflow process of releasing new products and all necessary Engineering tools for design, such as, DFMEA, DFM/DFA, statistical analysis, test reports, design review and tech reviews.

  • Understand braking systems, applications, and vocation.

  • Apply academic skills to link theory and real-life products.

  • Work to release parts through internal and external sources.

  • Program scheduling and updates as required.

  • Coordination of brake lab activities including:

  • Developments

  • Research activities.

  • Inspections on service parts or field returns investigation.

  • Understand and apply best practices and contribute to improve them.

  • Create purchase orders and track and manage test parts for testing at Cummins - Meritor test Labs.

  • Be compliant and understand Safety procedures to guarantee a safer environment to work.

  • Ensure timely completion of all project objectives.

  • Be able to write detailed technical reports.

  • Have a positive attitude, quick learner and a team player with diverse ideas and viewpoints.

  • Must be willing to learn blueprints and interpret dimensions, geometric tolerances, and material specifications.

  • Contribute effectively toward team goals and work as a team member to ensure project completion

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Relevant previous experiences as intern or co-op or other extracurricular team activities in relevant technical areas is preferred.

  • Able to work in work team supporting cross-functional groups.

  • Excellent presentation skills, communication and proactive.

  • Committed to learn and focused on accept project tasks and challenges.

  • Problem solving mindset.

  • Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.

  • Knowledge of 3D Model software, Creo is preferred.

Education, Licenses, Certification

  • College, university, or equivalent bachelor’s degree in engineering or appropriate STEM field needs to be in progress.

  • Candidate should have minimum of 72 credit hours completed.

  • Must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA.

  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

  • Availability hours per week: Average of 25 to 30 hours.

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
